From Fez, you will start your ascent in the Atlas Mountains where you will pass by Ifrane, a winter sports resort in a totally non-Moroccan style built by the French in the 30s to look like a Swiss village. . Visit the cedar forest in Azrou and observe the monkeys in the trees. Most of the day will be spent traveling through beautiful forests, springs, and other jagged rock faces, not forgetting the Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and start descending to the Sahara Desert. Halfway you will stop for lunch in the city of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks, before continuing to Merzouga. On the road, you will stop at a place with a panoramic view of a huge oasis of palm trees. In Rissani, you will switch to a 4×4 vehicle to drive in the desert. You will arrive at Merzouga in the afternoon. Check in to your hotel at the foothills of the dunes.
Today we will explore the desert region. We will make a circuit of the dunes of the desert where you will have the opportunity to see the path of nomadic life changing and incredible contrasts of the desert. We will visit the ” black village” Khamlia to see Gnawa musicians. We will have a traditional Berber pizza for lunch in the old capital of Rissani . After lunch you can visit the traditional markets. In the afternoon we will return to the hotel to prepare for departure on camels. As sunsets over the desert dunes of Erg Chebbi, we will ride the camels 90 minutes to the camp in the desert. We will have a delicious dinner of traditional mint tea and tagine while watching the stars and the moon rising in the incredible wilderness.
In the morning you can get up early, take a walk on the sand dunes and watch the sunrise, just behind the Algerian border, which is about 50 km from Merzouga. You will leave by camel to the hotel in Merzouga, where you can take a shower and breakfast. Then you will take the 4×4 to Rissani where you will find your minivan. From there, you will take the road to Fez. On the road, you can stop for a rest and lunch. You will arrive in Fez in the late afternoon or evening.
